Traveling to Italy is such a wonderful treat that I have grown to appreciate more over the years and time of my going there. From all the unique places to explore, things to see, food to eat, and culture to experience, Italy is a wonderful travel destination that can definitely be achieved on a budget. My previous blogs talked about my experiences traveling to Italy, my favorite places I’ve been to, best ways of transportation and accommodation, food in Italy including delicious pizza, pasta and gelato, as well as many places to go and things to see all over the country. This last post will wrap up my blog with more travel tips, and ways to save while on vacation. Although the wine in Italy is higher quality than the wine here and is usually enjoyed with both lunch and dinner, it is quite expensive. Instead of having wine every meal, try and choose to have a glass either once every day or every other day. Choosing water with your meal will save you a lot. Also, ask for tap water...

Places to go and Things to do in Italy

Every year, millions of people come frolliking from all over the world to visit all the areas of this beautiful country. Of course if they are unfamiliar with the country and only have a certain time there, the most popular tourist places are the best to visit and see. However, if you want to adventure out of your comfort zone and see some really cool small towns in addition to the popular sights, then continue on reading for pieces of advice. Although I have traveled to Italy about 8 times in my life and to numerous places, I still haven’t seen all of the places I would like. I also don’t remember some of the cities and towns I visited when I was a lot younger. Because of this, I will only talk about the places to go and what to do in the places I have been to that I remember. I’ll also include some places that I know about even though I haven’t been to. I’m going to start with southern Italy and make my way up. I’m not familiar with Southern Italy past Rome because I have ne...

Italian Food

When I think of Italy, the memories that pop in my head typically include the delicious tasting pizzas, pastas, breads, rich creamy gelato, and many other foods. Italy has some of the best tasting food in the world, and is very famous for its cuisine. From pesto gnocchi, to focaccia bread, and large thin-crusted pizzas rich in flavor and quality, Italian cuisine is, in my opinion, the best type of food. There is a large abundance of every Italian food in Italy. Food is eaten in several courses with lunch being the biggest meal of the day and dinner being served later, typically around 9pm. A typical lunch usually will start off with an appetizer such as prosciutto and melon, foccacia bread, soup, or salads. After this, the larger meal is served such as a meat dish, pasta dish, or pizza. Meals, both lunch and dinner are enjoyed with a glass of wine. Dessert might include a pastry, tiramisu, or a gelato from the nearest shop. Portions of food are smaller than those served in the U...

Transportation and Accommodation in Italy

Although traveling to Italy is an amazing experience, planning out all of your transportation and figuring out accommodations in Italy can be tricky, especially while on a budget. It is important to figure out the best types of transportation and accommodations for cheap. Italy is a popular country for tourists, and if you are planning on staying in a major city versus a smaller town, granted it will be more expensive. Italy is roughly a 12 hour plane flight from California not including the layovers you most likely will have to go through. In order to find the cheapest flights to Italy, it is important to book your flight as far in advance as possible. Also, try and use cheap airlines that have a layover or 2. Yes, it will be more time of travel and exhaustion from the jet lag, but it is worth it because it is often much cheaper. This summer, my family had a layover in London and we decided to spend a week there before heading off to Italy. One of the quickest and easiest ways ...

Traveling to Italy

I have very fond memories from my childhood of spending summers in my grandmother’s vacation house located in a small town in Italy along the riviera. I remember my parents taking me around the country and spending time in the town playing on the beach and eating delicious food. This summer, I went back to Italy for 3 weeks for the first time in 5 years. Being 18, I saw the country in a new light and was able to really appreciate all of the unique aspects of the country that I saw in those 3 weeks. Not only did I spend lots of time in the small towns meeting new people and exploring the new culture and areas, but I was also able to travel to the city of Florence and the surrounding areas of Tuscany. After spending 3 weeks in Italy over the summer and being able to experience the culture and the places, I realized just how special the country is and how much I’d like to travel back again and again. Traveling to Italy is a wonderful opportunity; if you are ever trying to f...
